AbleGamers Peer Counseling is a tremendous help.
Chris reached out after hearing about AbleGamers from the recreation coordinator for spinal cord injuries and illnesses at the Cleveland VA.
“My AbleGamers Peer Counselor, Zach, was a tremendous help. He listened to my concerns, carefully evaluated my strengths and limitations, suggested several solutions, and patiently listened to my feedback. Once we decided on a plan, he ordered everything for me and has been in touch several times to see how I was doing.”
“Playing video games has given me a worthwhile distraction from the harsh realities that my condition presents. It has strengthened my relationship with my adult children, both of whom are gamers. I’m connecting now with my two adult sons, and I have plans to play with a friend that I haven’t seen in years.”
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, AbleGamers was able to provide Peer Counseling and a new gaming setup, which includes adaptive equipment like a Quadstick and Magic Arm Mount. Now Chris is battling his way through Mass Effect and looking forward to playing Elite Dangerous, Starfield, Call of Duty, and The Witcher Three.
Playing video games is a valuable social activity that helps reduce social isolation by connecting people across distances and diverse backgrounds. Through multiplayer games, online communities, and cooperative gameplay, individuals can interact, collaborate, and build friendships. These virtual interactions provide a sense of belonging and support, fostering meaningful connections that transcend physical barriers. By engaging in shared gaming experiences, players can combat loneliness and create a supportive social network, making video games a powerful tool for enhancing social well-being.
