AbleGamers Sponsors Game Developer with Disabilities to join Train Jam

Have you heard about Train Jam? It’s an amazing journey for developers, led by Adriel Wallick and John Lindvay, from Chicago to San Diego, culminating at the annual Game Developers Conference. You get to see some of America’s most beautiful sites, all while developing a game with your closest 300+ indie devs and a few industry celebrities.

AbleGamers has long been a supporter of Train Jam and their amazing initiative to get developers out of the office and onto the inspirational journey that is our American countryside. But this year we decided to make it official.

We are thrilled to announce that AbleGamers has partnered with Train Jam to sponsor one lucky independent developer with disabilities for the trip of a lifetime. You’ll get to go on a 3-day trip, seeing some of the world’s most beautiful countryside, and ending at the coveted GDC.   Tickets for you and your choice of caretaker will be provided to Train Jam. Airfare to and from the event will also be provided.

If you’re an independent developer with a disability that has always wanted an opportunity to ride the rails and create some games with the community you love, here’s your chance.  The application process is open from now until 11:59 PM ET February 1st. Make sure to get your application in on time and with as much information as possible. We expect dozens of entries, so don’t delay. Apply today!

Q: Do I need to be disabled?

A: Yes. This sponsorship is intended to help those with disabilities.

Q: Do I need to have already created games?

A: No. You’ll be making a game on the train.

Q: Do I get passes to GC?

A: Most applicants already have GDC passes, but if you do not, our partners at GDC will be providing a pass.

Q: Is the train wheelchair accessible?

A: Yes. Unfortunately, only the first level. But you’ll have your own accessible room and an accessible train complete with ramp to get on the train.

Q: What if I need to bring a nurse/assistant/family member?

A: We’re including one family member or caretaker to come with you as part of the sponsorship. They’ll also get airfare and a ticket to Train Jam. You’ll need to share the room, but it’s a big room.

Q: This sounds great, but I would like to know more about Train Jam before I sign up.

A: Train Jam has an excellent FAQ. Read all about it and if this seems like something you want to do, sign up and maybe we’ll pick you!
